The Detroit Tigers Try To Get Back At Boston Red Sox President Dave Dombrowski

The Boston Red Sox are getting burnt by the Detroit Tigers in regards to scheduling as the Tigers are forcing the Red Sox to play game 1 of their series at 1pm despite the Red Sox coming from Baltimore the night before.

The Red Sox believe the Tigers manipulated the schedule to gain a competitive advantage on Thursday by playing a 1 p.m. game despite the Red Sox playing at 7 p.m. in Baltimore a night earlier. Defenders of the Tigers have stated that the team virtually always plays Thursday matinees, which have become a tradition, and thus was under no obligation to shift the start.

The Red Sox privately believe the move is an F-U to former boss Dave Dombrowski, who arrived last August after being fired by the Tigers. The Red Sox did request for the time of the game to be moved to allow their players some rest before the game, the timing of these games have caused quite the mess and anger among the Red Sox team.

The team didn’t get into Detroit until about 3am with several players taking to social media to voice their complaints of the timing.

Clay Buchholz Gets The Short End Of The Stick

inbuchblowdex.jpgIf there is one player on the Red Sox that deserves some apologizes it is starter Clay Buchholz who will be making the 1pm start against the Tigers. The plan was to send Clay Buchholz to Detriot ahead of his teammates so he wouldn’t be tired from the late night flight and early start

Buchholz was supposed to take off from Baltimore Washington International Airport at 5:30 p.m., with a car scheduled to pick him up at Detroit Metropolitan Airport at 7:15 p.m.

But his flight was delayed at least three hours, forcing Buchholz to head back to Camden Yards, where he found himself at about 9 p.m., just as the Red Sox were getting ready to start their rain delay. The plan to have Buchholz avoid being subjected to the team’s quick turnaround no longer was an option.

Buchholz ended up taking of from BWI with the rest of the Red Sox team at around 1am, by the time the team arrived to their hotel in Detriot they had about 10 hrs before game time. With the insane travel time the lineup for game one is very different with David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia both getting the day off, as Sandy Leon will DH, Deven Marrero will play second base and Aaron Hill will play third base against Tigers lefty Matt Boyd.

Even with the Red Sox playing on limited rest you have to imagine that they will be playing with some anger on Thursday against the Tigers. Not allowing the game to be played at night will be extra motivation that might give the Red Sox some extra strength to beat the Tigers.
