USA gets shutout by Team Europe; while young stars dazzle against Finland.
First lets start with the bad news Team USA gets shutout by Team Europe on Saturday, who’s average team age is just under 30 or is 30. USA lost by a score of 3-0, The goal scorers for Team Europe was Marian Gaborik, Leon Draisaitl, and Pierre- Eduard Bellmare, while Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves.
Jonathan Quick only made 14 saves, and looked pretty bad out there but it was not his fault two of the goals was due to a huge lapse on defense the first on was a goal off of a 2 on 1, and another goal was a 2 on O after Patrick Kane turned the puck over at the offensive blue line. The offensive chances were there for USA but they just could not convert which hopefully is not going to be a habit in the future, and the defense played like shit.
Here is Zach Parise about the team “We know we’ve got to learn from that one and get ready for the next one because it’s not going to get any easier for us.”
USA will play Canada on Tuesday and I for one would like to see Corey Schneider between the pipes. USA beat Canada in the pre-tourny game so lets hope they can do it again.
Now to the Good news Team North America is absolutely stacked. They played Finland last night. Here are just a few names who also happen to be the goal scores for the NA team: Jack Eichel, Johnny Gaudreau, Jonathan Drouin, and Nathan MacKinnon. North America came out on fire score just five minutes into the game. This is a team of highly skilled kids that are very fun to watch, they are fast, smart and can play both side of the game. If you are not a hockey fan then this is the team to watch, and I think that they are a dark horse for this tournament and have a decent shot of making the finals. Eight of the 12 forward for North America registered a point in last night game.
Matt Murray was outstanding in this game only allowing one goal on 24 shots.
