The New England Patriots Secondary Has A Huge Task Ahead Covering Julio Jones And The Atlanta Falcons Receiving Group In Super Bowl 51
With the New England Patriots set to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51 next Sunday it is time to start analyzing key matchups and areas that the Patriots may be overmatched in.
One of those areas could be in the secondary as the Falcons have elite weapons in the passing game starting with top wideout Julio Jones.
Jones is a big play maker in the passing game and can find ways to get open and make defenders miss. This means the Pat’s secondary has to step up and shadow Jones the entire game.
And this is a task that Patriots corner Logan Ryan is not overlooking.
“It’s a huge task,” Ryan said Sunday. “I mean, they’re one of the most productive [groups] in the league, obviously offensively. We see what they do. We see what they did to other secondaries so we have our work cut out for us.
“But at the same time, Pittsburgh was the same way and a lot of guys that we’ve played have – I mean receivers are the best athletes in the world, honestly. A lot of those guys are extremely athletic. Our job is tough — we know that — but we’ve got to do it together.”
