Boston Celtics Point Guard Isaiah Thomas Is A Real MVP Candidate At The Moment No Matter What The Haters Say About The Guard.
Before I get to why Isaiah Thomas is an MVP candidate I must first get to why he will never win the MVP award, and that reason is because the guy does not play any defense whatsoever. Sure he scores 30 points per night and is the leagues best fourth quarter scorer, but his defense makes him a liability on the court.
But just because he will never win the MVP vote doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be considered for the prestigious honor.
IT just had his 5th 40-pt game this season is the most by a Celtics player since Paul Pierce had 5 in 2002-03 in a big comeback win against the Toronto Raptors who are neck-and-neck with the C’s in the standings. That fact is insane, and we are not even at the All-Star break yet so in theory Thomas could have even more of these 40+ outbursts.
Prior to the start of the game against the Toronto Raptors the coach of Toronto Dwayne Casey even compared IT to the likes of Michael Jordan and the great Larry Bird. Both of those comps are ridiculous at the moment but you never know what could happen several years down the road.
And thats just it with Thomas, he keeps on getting better and better with no signs of slowing down at 27-years-old.
The most important time in a basketball game is the fourth quarter, and Isaiah is the best in the entire league in fourth quarter scoring. That fact alone should put him in the MVP conversation especially with his team currently sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference.
NBA – 4th Quarter Scoring (Real time update)
Isaiah Thomas – 10.5
Russell Westbrook – 9.2
Kyle Lowry – 8.0
It is still too early in the season to definitively say Thomas is an MVP candidate when this season is all over, but at this moment in time he is in that conversation. Who knows, maybe he can sure up his candidacy by working on his defense and become less of a liability on the defensive end of the court.
