Boston Celtics Coaching Staff Headed To All-Star Game After Beating The Los Angeles Lakers On Friday Night

With the Boston Celtics defeating the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night at TD Garden the team became the NBA leader in franchise wins notching their 3253 win breaking the tie they had made with the Lakers.

This record wasn’t the only thing to celebrate though for the C’s as the win secured head coach Brad Stevens and his coaching staff a trip to the NBA All-Star game.

With the win, Celtics coach Brad Stevens is officially the head coach of the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Although Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has led his team to the best record in the east he cannot coach the All-Star team in back-to-back years due to the “Pat Riley Rule.” Therefore, the coach with the second-best record is given the honor.

The rule was named after former Lakers head coach Pat Riley, who earned the right to coach the Western Conference team eight times in nine seasons between 1982 and 1990.

Stevens reacted humbly to being able to coach the All-Star team by putting the focus back on his players and his staff around him.

“I think none of us are crazy enough to think you get there without really good players, and the players certainly carry the coaches,” said Stevens, whose Celtics surged ahead of Toronto this week to claim the second-best record in the East.

“But with regard to the staff,” he added, “I think our staff works really hard. I’ve tried to prioritize hiring humble, hardworking and intelligent people. And they come every day, they work really hard, they do a lot behind the scenes, they put in a lot of time and effort, and so it’s nice that they’re going to be a part of that as well.”

Either way this is a big positive for the Celtics as their young head coach now has a chance to show what he is made of to the best players in the NBA and who knows, maybe he can lure one of them to Boston in the coming seasons.
