Boston Bruins Talk: Big Man Defenseman And Black And Gold Captain Zdeno Chara Has Nothing But Good Things To Say About Former Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien
With Boston Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara battling a virus the last couple of days he was unable to voice his thoughts on the dismissal of former Bruins head coach Claude Julien who was fired this past Tuesday.
Chara has played under Julien ever since he came to Boston in the 2006-2007 season and was part of the 2011 Stanley Cup winning team so when Chara has good things to say about Julien it should come as no surprise.
“You obviously felt bad for him. It’s a tough situation where you see a coach, a good coach, a good person being let go obviously because the results that we put up were not good enough. We all took responsibility for that,” said Chara. “He’s a coach that had done a tremendous job in Boston over his time here, and was a big part of us winning [the Stanley Cup] in 2011. That will never be forgotten. Wherever he goes, he’s going to have success and we obviously wish him well.”
Chara had a lot of success under Claude including a Norris Trophy season in 2008 and was one of the better defenseman in the National Hockey league. With big Z now at 39-years of age and one more year left on his deal and a faster paced system likely being installed by new head coach Bruce Cassidy one can assume Chara’s days in Boston are limited.
