Mount Hockey Coach Bill Belisle Getting Featured On NBC
In Northern Rhode Island and in the youth hockey world Coach Bill Belisle is an absolute legend with national recognition in hockey circles.
Coach Belisle has had immense success at the helm of Mount St. Charles hockey program and his squad posted his 1,000 career victory two weeks ago. Now Belisle is getting the chance to become a star in the national spotlight.
NBC has announced the Mount Coach will be part of a feature that will air Sunday in one of the period intermissions of the New York Rangers–Washington Capitals NHL game on NBC.
The Rangers-Caps game, scheduled for 12:30 p.m., will be the first of four NHL games on NBC or NBCSN as part of the Hockey Day in America programming. The others are Detroit-Pittsburgh; Chicago-Buffalo and the Boston Bruins-San Jose Sharks game Sunday night.
Throughout the day during intermissions of the games, NBC will be airing human-interest features on individuals involved with American hockey and Belisle will be one of those stories.
Former Mount St. Charles star goalie Brian Boucher, who went on to a 13-year NHL career and now is one of NBC’s “Inside the Glass” commentators for NHL games, came to Rhode Island Friday morning and spent a few hours taping an interview with his former coach.
“My father was a little nervous about it when NBC first contacted us, but when Brian walked in, my dad felt very comfortable,” Dave Belisle, Bill’s son and Mount co-coach, said about his father, who was inducted into the American Hockey Hall of Fame in November. “It was one of his boys doing the interview. They spent hours talking hockey in my dad’s office.”
Many might know Bills son Dave who was the coach of the Cumberland Americans in the Little League World Series twice and had a viral post-game speech that inspired ad campaigns and athletes across the country.
The family that has coached countless number of kids truly is an inspiration to us all and now it is time for Coach Bill Belisle to get his recognition.
