Boston Celtics Rumors: Potential Buyout Candidates For Team To Add

With the Boston Celtics staying pat at the NBA trade deadline they still have several options to become a better team by adding a piece from the buy-out market that is about to be filled with an abundance of potential talent.

Below I examine a couple of the top candidates Danny Ainge and company should be targeting.

Andrew Bogut:

Bogut was dealt to the Philadelphia 76er’s as part of the Nerlens Noel trade with the Dallas Mavericks and is expected to engage in buyout talks with the Sixers. Bogut is the rebounding big man the Celtics could certainly use to help sure up their team. Bogut was averaging 8.3 rebounds per game with the Mav’s and in my opinion should be the top priority for the Celtics if Danny Ainge want’s to add solid depth.

Unfortunately for Boston, there are several big name teams that are reportedly in the market such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.

The Celtics do have an advantage however in the ability to offer Bogut a starting role right away by plugging him right into the lineup next to Al Horford. Issue is his best shot at winning an NBA championship is with Cleveland and potentially have the chance to make his old team the Golden State Warriors pay for trading him to Dallas in the first place.

Jared Sullinger:

Sully left Boston this past offseason for Toronto but after suffering an early season injury and time spent in the D-league he was shipped to the Phoenix Suns in a trade that sent PJ Tucker to Toronto. Sullinger is expected to be bought out and would be an interesting candidate for the Celtics to target.

He is a good rebounder, has familiarity with the system, and has a lot to prove. If a player like Bogut is snagged by another team the Celtics might favor a reunion with their former player.

Terrence Jones:

Jones is a player who has yet to garner a real chance in the NBA, but to his credit he is having a solid season with a  11.5 points per game and 5.9 rebounds a game.

With the Pelicans acquiring Demarcus Cousins though Jones was going to see his playing time cut to essentially nothing, so the Pelicans did the right thing and  granted his release.

His athleticism also makes him a versatile defender, and is an upgrade over Jordan Mickey as a depth forward. Jones would be another target I would go and get if I was sitting in Danny’s chair.

There are other potential candidates for the Celtics to go after, but I believe these three fill the rebounding need the team has at the moment. If you feel strongly about another candidate or have a favorite of these three leave it in the comment section below.
