Boston Bruins Drew Stafford Is Excited To Be On A Playoff Team

Stafford wants to win

Drew Stafford will most likely make his Bruins Debut on Saturday when the Boston Bruins take on the New Jersey Devils.

Stafford was unable to make it to last nights game. He probably would have helped as the Bruins lost to Henrik Lundqvist and the Rangers 2-1. The Biggest takeaway from last night game was that the Bruins can still comeback as they were down two goals late and were able to get it to a one goal game, with a goal from Brad Marchand The Bruins made a big mistake with 2:20 left in the game when David Backes got called for a tripping penalty. The team was unable to convert shorthanded. Torey Krug had a shot with about 2 seconds left off of a face-off win from Patrice Bergeron but Krug was unable to settle down the puck to get a shot off.  They will need to bounce back against the Devils.

Stafford is no Stranger to the BruinsOrganization as he faced them many times with his time on The Buffalo Sabres. As mentioned in an earlier article Stafford has not had a very productive year but his is looking forward to playing for a team that is pushing for the playoffs.

“I’m excited to be back in the mix, back in the playoff hunt. I obviously have a lot of experience playing against these guys over the years, and, you know, the core group of veteran guys they have,” said Stafford, who was shipped to the Bruins from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick that goes as high as a fourth rounder based on games played/playoff wins. “They’re a championship team, they have that experience, and that’s why you play, is to get back to that opportunity.

“Obviously I have a lot of good memories coming out of Winnipeg, and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity they gave me up there, but to get a chance, like I said, to get back to playing and hopefully contribute, help these guys win games and go on that playoff hunt is huge.”

Bruins President Cam Neely went on Felger and Mazz (radio show on 98.5) on Thursday and said that he expects Stafford to be slotted in as a 3rd line guy to start with. Then once he has a few games under his belt he will be reevaluated and moved up or down. I like this kind of mix up because it will make both young and veteran players see that their job may be in jeopardy and could spark them into playing better. It could also do the opposite. I am excited to see what Drew can bring the B’s.
