Red Sox Rumor: David Ortiz Unsure If He Wants To Be In Broadcasting Booth

The next career for Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz has caused a lot of interest from Red Sox nation. The team itself has hinted at Ortiz in the NESN broadcasting booth this season, but newly published reports are saying Big Papi is cautious of entering the broadcasting profession.

According to the Boston Globe’s Chad Finn, Ortiz is undecided about what he wants to pursue in broadcasting. In addition to NESN, Finn says Fox Sports has also expressed interest in his services. Ortiz was a part of the network’s 2014 World Series coverage.

In an interview with Herald Radio last month, Red Sox president Sam Kennedy put out the idea of Ortiz joining the NESN team.

“It’ll be fun to watch the next stage of his career,” Kennedy said. “He’s got a lot of different interests. Broadcasting is certainly one. It’d be interesting to see if he goes into national broadcasting. We’d certainly love to have him part of our local broadcast team on a limited basis. He wanted to dip his toe into that water.”

The team will retire his No. 34 on June 23 so Ortiz will be at Fenway Park at some point this season, but don’t expect to see the Big Fella a lot this upcoming season barring any type of career change.
