Pittsburgh Steelers Back Le’Veon Bell Claims Team Would Have Beaten The New England Patriots In AFC Championship If He Was Healthy

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell made a bold statement on Friday.

Appearing on ESPN’s “First Take,” Bell was asked about the AFC title game where the Patriots beat the Steelers, 36-17. He said the game would’ve been different if he didn’t have to leave the game in the first quarter with a groin injury.

“I think we beat them,” Bell said. “When I was out there, I wasn’t feeling well at all. The fact I was out there [early in the game], their game plan was so different just because of the fact I was out there. If I go out there healthy and we go out there and do what we do, the way we’ve been doing it the whole season, especially in the playoffs, running the ball, running play-action, leaving [Antonio Brown] one-on-one … I think the outcome would have been different. We’ll get back to that next year.”

It is worth noting that the Steelers have lost four straight games overall to the Patriots. Bell’s statement isn’t shocking as you generally see players voice extreme confidence in their abilities.

But this is one of those meaningless statements made by a player who knows that you cannot prove his point to be a fact or a lie. Bell is one of the best all around running backs in the entire NFL, issue is the guy is never on the field. Weather it be an injury or smoking pot this player has not been on the field when his team needs him the most. Injuries are unavoidable for the most part, but getting suspended due to weed is.

Even if Bell was present against the New England Patriots there is simply no way to prove his effectiveness, Matt Patricia and the Patriots defense would have played the game differently. Sounding off in an interview is expected, but don’t fool yourself for one second if you think that Steelers team could have taken down the New England Patriots in Foxborough.
