New England Patriots Seeking Jaw Dropping Price For Jimmy Garoppolo

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo speaking on the NFL Network Tuesday afternoon, the Patriots would need to get a first-round pick in 2017 and a first-round pick in 2018 in order to deal back up quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Browns, who were said to be the team most interested in Garoppolo, would not do that deal, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The report adds the Browns will continue to try and get Garoppolo from the Patriots with their No. 12 overall pick as a starting point.

Garoppolo is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is projected to once again back up future Hall of Famer Tom Brady. The third QB on the roster is second year player Jacoby Brissett and you have to wonder if the team has confidence in because if they did they might feel comfortable letting Jimmy go for a cheaper price.

Personally though leaking a price tag like this is to make opposing teams balk at even asking the Patriots for a trade for Garoppolo. The likely hood of the team trading or a team coming close to this price tag is slim to none. If New England declines trading Jimmy they will have an interesting scenario next offseason as they can either franchise tag the backup at the cool number of $20+ million for a season or they can try and get him to sign a team friendly two year deal with the goal of him being the post Brady starting QB.

The only incentive the team can really offer him is the idea that he is comfortable with the system and will have a competitive team once he gets the starting job. Either way the Patriots will have to do something with their QB situation sooner rather than later.
