Boston Celtics Have A Serious Problem With Isaiah Thomas

Boston Celtics All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas is becoming a liability for Brad Stevens and the team, the guard has voiced his opinions vocally to the media after games and after a tough loss against the Los Angeles Clippers the guard sounded off and this time he called out head coach Brad Stevens.

What I was able to find is the comments below, keep in mind that is not his full statement post game.

“Everything,” he said. “We should have won this game. We should have won [Sunday] night [in Phoenix]. We can’t be experimenting in Game 63.”

Added Thomas: “It’s just the way we lost tonight was unacceptable. We lost the game in the last 15 minutes of the game. We played a really good game up until the last 15 minutes. And that’s the players’ fault, the coaches’ fault, that’s everybody in this locker room’s fault. We could have done a lot better.”

There was an audio piece that had IT saying he sometimes lets Brad Stevens coach, wasn’t able to find the audio or text as it was on the radio. But he may have said that as well.

That being said the actual quote text above is enough to cause concern, Stevens was without Al Horford and Jonas Jerebko against the Clippers forcing him to change up his lineups. The fact is sure IT can hold others accountable if he can hold himself accountable, but  to say you shouldn’t experiment in game 63 is utterly ridiculous considering what Stevens had to work with and balance players who couldn’t play.

Yes having Jordan Mickey out there in the fourth is not ideal, but you can’t use Horford or Jerebko. Clearly IT was mad, and he should be. But throwing your coach under the bus for something like this is preposterous and he has not earned the right to make a comment like this. Thomas is not LeBron James, he has not won a title, or even come close in his entire career.

Stevens told Brain Scalabrine to not put a lot of thought into IT’s comments as Thomas came right to Stevens after he made the comments to apologize. Of course Brad has to say that to keep control of his locker room, but Thomas is beginning to create a pattern of speaking out with the media, just the night before in the teams last second loss to the Suns Thomas once again voiced his thoughts and instead of taking ownership of the last second turnover he decided to throw fellow Celtic Jae Crowder under the bus saying Jae held onto the ball too long.

Somethings are meant to be in private, and Thomas needs to be aware of that. Comments like the ones after the Clippers game might make Danny Ainge weary of giving Thomas that max contract he desperately wants. But if they are as they say fine with it, then they should have traded for Demarcus Cousins who the argument for not wanting was his troublesome personality. Don’t read that wrong though, Thomas is not Cousins, but he is as vocal.

If you still voice on Thomas’s side though you may want to hear ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith who made a comment on First Take that Thomas should be playing 37 minutes a game instead of the 34 he is averaging. Now how would Smith even know something like that you may ask, it is because someone likely in Thomas’s camp told Stephen A. that information.

The issue I have with this is if you go off in the media about losing which is a good thing, but behind closed doors your are complaining about minutes which is not a good thing. The difference is one is about winning games (good) and the other is a more personal selfish reason (bad).

In conclusion Thomas should take a look in the mirror when he throws his coaches and teammates under the bus, it hasn’t been all sunshine and daisy’s out of him since the NBA trade deadlined.

6 Games 11-34 FG 32% 6-20 3PT FG 30% 15-22 FT 68% 7 AST 2 steals 44 points -10 +/-

Obviously this isn’t a very popular with Celtics fans as they are treating IT like he is somehow transcended into Larry Bird, leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Editors Note: After writing this post IT had this to say about his comments after the game.

Still doesn’t get him completely off the hook, but at least he is holding himself somewhat accountable for his actions.
