Patriots Rumor: Team Not Interested In Free Agent Running Back Adrian Peterson

According to Pro Football Talk, the Patriots have not yet discussed Adrian Peterson, and it would be safe to assume they won’t pursue him at all.

Peterson would have needed to take a major pay cut if he ever were to sign with New England, as he made over $12 million last season and the Patriots rarely ever pay their running backs more than $2 million a year. It is rumored that Peterson would be willing to take a pay cut to come and play in New England but it likely would not be enough to make the Patriots sign him.

In his 10-year career he has rushed for over 1,000 yards seven times. There are still some lingering effects with his past off the field issues, so the news isn’t surprising at all.

According to reports running back LeGarrette Blount will be departing, so the team will need to add a running back. Below are several free agent options for New England to consider.

Of course all eyes are on the Patriots to potentially draft Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey who could be a perfect fit for the Patriots system. Draft charts have him at around the 19th pick in the 1st round and with the Patriots sitting back at 32 it is unlikely they will be able to draft him unless they decide to trade up.
