New England Revolution Cancel Their Home Opener Due To Weather

Due to the weather in the Northeast New England Revolution fans will have to wait even longer to watch their club play at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

The Revolution sent out a press release around 9’oclock Friday morning announcing their decision to postpone their home opener against the Orlando City SC due to the weather climate expected on Saturday March 11th. Per the team the reasoning behind the postponement was due to the extreme weather conditions that are expected at Gillette.

“All of us involved in this decision believe this is in the best interest of the fans, the players, and the game,” said Revolution President Brian Bilello. “We at the Revolution look forward to seeing all our fans at the Orlando game on September 2.”

Saturday’s weather forecast calls for extreme cold with wind chills expected to take temperatures below 10 degrees around Gillette Stadium. The game against Orlando will now be made up and will be played at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m.  The Rev’s  will now open its home schedule against Minnesota United FC on Saturday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET.

For fans that had tickets to the March 11th game their tickets will be honored by the team on the September 2nd makeup date or the team is also giving those fans the option to switch to another Revolution home game by simply calling the team at 1-877-GET-REVS.

For the Revolution this might be a blessing in disguise with Veteran Captain Lee Nguyen being listed as day-to-day after suffering an ankle contusion during last weeks season opener against the Colorado Rapids where the Rev’s lost 1-0. Nguyen was likely going to be a game time decision on the 11th but now he and the Rev’s now have an extra week to prepare for their next match which will be on Saturday, March 18, against FC Dallas with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET at Toyota Stadium.
